Explore the Makay massif on a trekking journey through one of Madagascar’s most remote areas. The route passes through canyons, forests and clear rivers, with opportunities to see lemurs and other wildlife. Nights are spent in simple camps in the heart of the wilderness. This trip is for travellers who enjoy walking, exploring and reconnecting with nature.Day 1 – Arrival in Antananarivo
Airport pickup and transfer to the hotel. Overview of the tour.
Day 2 – Antananarivo - Miandrivazo
After breakfast, depart for Miandrivazo. You’ll explore beautiful scenery along the way. Lunch will be in Mandoto before continuing on to Miandrivazo.
Day 3 – Miandrivazo - Makay
Early morning departure to Antsakoazato, the village where we begin our trek at the entrance to the Makay area. On this first day of trekking, it’s a 2-hour walk to the first campsite.
Day 4 – Makay
After breakfast at the Soatanimbary camp, trekking along the Sakapaly River to the Ankaramena camp. During this day, more of Makay awaits your exploration.
Day 5 – Makay
After breakfast at the Ankaramena camp, we’ll set out to continue along the Sakapaly River to the Ampasimaiky camp. After lunch at the camp, you’ll explore half of the Ampasimaiky canyon before climbing to the panoramic viewpoint to admire a beautiful sunset.
Day 6 – Makay
Early in the morning, we’ll hike to another viewpoint to appreciate the sunrise, then return to camp for breakfast. After breakfast, we’ll set out on a long loop trekk through the Ambilando and Sakapaly canyons. It’s a long day of walking to explore the scenery.
Day 7 – Makay
After breakfast, departure for the Andasiberivotra campsite. Along the way, you’ll enjoy the mountain scenery before reaching the Mandekatra Canyon.
Day 8 – Makay - Miandrivazo
After breakfast at the camp, it’s a 2-hour walk to the spot where the car will pick you up. The trek ends there, and you’ll continue by car toward Miandrivazo. Lunch stops in Ambatolahy.
Day 9 – Miandrivazo - Antananarivo
After breakfast, we’ll depart for Antananarivo. Lunch will be in Antsirabe, and we can also visit the craft shop right after lunch in Antsirabe to buy souvenirs before continuing on to Antananarivo.
Day 10 – International departure
After breakfast, you’ll have free time for souvenir shopping in the city. Then, transfer to the airport for your international flight. End of the trip
